effff, whenever i come across a sonic youth screenprinted poster that i like, it’s usually sold out already. such as this one by todd slater. can’t resist the flickering flames of hell. a nice analogy to what it feels like sometimes to listen to a sonic youth record.

so apparently the scott pilgrim movie is tanking badly, both in the states and in australia. i went to see it last tightarse tuesday, in a small cinema that was only a quarter full. okay, that cinema has shutdown rumours about it, but if people have been saying the film is too “niche”, then judging by the people sitting around me, that can’t be too far off. tattooed kids, geeks, people talking loudly with the self conscious aplomb that inhabits characters in such a movie.
of course if i had had the opposite reaction to the film, i wouldn’t even bother posting this. but even vanity fair is imploring you to watch this film, and others saying you should watch it instead of that other overblown action film.

when i was a kid i used to eat little tubs and tubs of this ice cream. only i wasn’t in japan, where this is normally sold. back then, the peters ice cream factory in perth made them for lotte to export, and a friend of a friend was able to procure a supply every now and then.
i loved this ice cream more than the rich premium connoisseur brand stuff. digging a spoon into a cup of vanilla creaminess… heavenly.

i wish i had a photograph of the girl i saw this morning on the way to work. she was standing at the edge of the kerb in front of the petrol station, about to cross the road, possibly waiting to catch a bus. she was dressed in a black jacket, and a bright red dress which ballooned down the bottom. and on her feet she towered in the vivienne westwood winged sandals, as pictured. she looked as if she was about to get the hell out of suburbia.
